Running with sticks is a new idea to many. It is certainly possible to use them too much. Knowing when and how is important. On the uphills, sticks can give you extra propulsion from your arms. On the downhill, sticks can be sparingly used to help you keep balance. This is helpful for longer races or on steep and tricky terrain. The use of sticks is very personal, some runners find that they get in the way of their flow, while others find them very useful.

We’re joining with National Parks South Australia in celebrating Para Wirra Conservation Park as their Park of the Month for May 2018. Come along on Sunday morning and see some of the improvements that have been made in the Park and check out the trails we’ll be making good use of in our newest event later this year – The Devil’s Nose.
We’ll start at 8:00am from the car park immediately south of the junction of Bassnet Rd with Humbug Scrub Rd. Click here for Google Map directions
The nearest toilets are on the west side of Kersbrook (beside Kersbrook Rd), and inside Para Wirra Conservation Park.
There are two options; an 8km Mack Creek Loop (a signposted trail in the southern portion of the Park) and a 24km longer loop around the whole Park. This is a social run and the courses will not be marked.
For afterwards, we’ll head to The Gully Public House on North-East Rd, opposite the junction with Perseverance Rd.
Guru app (previously known as “Galileo”) strongly recommended: We strongly recommend you download the Guru mapping app for your phone, and load the GPX map into it. The “download gpx” link is just above the map on this page.
- Download Guru (previously known as Galileo) for iPhone
- Download Guru (previously known as Galileo) for android
You will need to download the full version (roughly $2) rather than the free version.
If you are having trouble, arrive approximately 20 minutes early and ask around for help on how to set it up. If you know how to load a GPX file into Guru please do that before coming.
For iPhone users – the “download gpx” link wont work if you click it from within facebook. You need to open the safari app on your phone, visit trailrunningsa.com, and go from there.
If you would prefer not to use Guru, a printed map is also available by clicking the print map (PDF) button next to the map below.
