Date: Sun, 31 March 2019
This event is organised by Lions and Rotary Clubs of Mt. Barker.See the Conquer the Summit website for more information.
The eighth annual Conquer the Summit event will be held at 9am on Sunday 31st March 2019 with a new starting location, a more scenic trail course and an even greater challenge. At 10km it is slightly shorter than previous years but the steeper course ensures that it remains as one of the toughest early season trail runs.
The starting location has been moved to the parkrun start behind the Mt Barker Council offices at the Homemaker Centre on Dutton Road. This provides better parking facilities and the Laratinga Cafe adjacent to the start line will be open from 8am for that last minute caffeine hit and for a post run breakfast.
The course follows the bike path parkrun route to Bald Hills Road for 2.5km, then proceeds along Springs Road for just 1.5km before turning left on to the dirt Williams Road, going past the fire trail to the Summit for around 1km then back to the fire trail and up to the Summit. So 6km of the run is on a dirt road or fire trail and just 1.5km on the road. Plus it is much more scenic than the previous course which was mainly on bitumen.
This is the perfect preparation for the TRSA Five Peaks run the following Sunday.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from RAMS Home Loans Mt Barker and others, 100% of your registration fee will be donated to Operation Flinders, the organization that runs a wilderness therapy program in the Flinders Ranges for at risk teenagers. Entrants will be encouraged to seek additional sponsorship for their efforts to boost the fundraising total.
Registrations will open in mid January so watch this space. The earlybird entry fee will be $40 as per last year ($50 after earlybird entries close). An iconic Conquer the Summit medal will be awarded to all earlybird entrants who finish. Trophies will be awarded to the top individuals and teams and there are cash prizes for the first three males and females ($300, $150, $50).
