Meet Norton Summit at 7.15 a.m to carpool to Eagle on the Hill entrance to Cleland C.P. on Mt Barker Rd for a 8.00 a.m. start.
There is also a “back and out” option, starting at 5:50am at Norton Summit for those who want a challenge. See the facebook page for that event for further details.
If you take your car down to Eagle on the Hill, remember to leave spare clothes in someone else’s car at Norton Summit. There are toilets at Norton Summit in the CFS building below the church, and in the Cleland Wildlife Park carpark, which is a slight diversion westwards from the Yurrebilla Trail. There is plenty of parking dispersed around Norton Summit, including a carpark up on your right when you reach the top of Old Norton Summit Rd from the city.
Look at the street directory to find this direct and picturesque route from Norton Summit to Eagle on the Hill (distances are approximate). Take Lobethal Rd from Norton Summit. After about 1 km turn right into Woods Hill Rd. After another 1.5 kms turn right into Ridge Rd, follow this for 2 kms until junction with Greenhill Rd, turn right, then left after 200m into Mt Lofty Summit Rd. This takes you to Crafers. Go straight over first roundabout, then turn right at the second roundabout into the South-Eastern Freeway. Keep to the left lane and take the left turn into Mt Barker Rd. You’ll see the Eagle on the Hill parking area on your right.
For afterwards, Malcolm and Merrilyn MacMillan will be generously serving refreshments on the Yurrebilla trail as you enter Norton Summit (in front of the Mt Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Centre).
