Sorry entries are now closed.  There are no on the day race entries.

The 2021 Cleland Trail Championship is back to finish of the TRSA year!  This year we have 3 all new courses (11km, 17km and 24km), with the long course also doubling as the championship event (all runners are welcome – this course will not be any more difficult than the winter trail running series’ long courses).

Participants will enjoy running along  the wooded slopes of Mt Lofty, with views down rugged valleys and beyond as far as the sea. This is some of the finest scenery in the Mt Lofty Ranges, yet it is all easily accessible from Adelaide. The courses are predominantly on bush tracks or dirt paths, and almost completely out of sight of roads.  There are plenty of koalas and kangaroos to be spotted if you look hard enough (you may even get a glimpse of the shy bandicoot and the famed deer who are known to hang out in parts of the park).

They all start and finish on a wide track on the eastern side of the Cleland Wildlife Park car park.

This event is capped at 800 participants.

Features

  • Magnificent scenery, beautiful woodland trails, kangaroos, koalas, birds
  • Trophies for 1st 3 male & female runners in each event.
  • 3 water stations along the 24km course, 2 water stations along the 17km course and 1 water station along the 11km course.

Course Closures

Our policy and methodology for determining course closure times is here.

All courses close at 11:00 AM, giving the following cutoff paces:

  • 24km run: closes at 10:00 min/km.
  • 17km run: closes at 12:35 min/km.
  • 11km run/walk: closes at 16:36 min/km.

Walkers

Welcome! We permit walkers into the shortest distance only. This is to ensure that everyone is back safely and accounted for in time for presentations. Although we ask during registration whether you are walking or running, we don’t time the walking event separately to the running event. You can run if you like too.

If you are a slower runner doing the longer distances, check the cutoff paces above.

Start Location

The start location is along Long Ridge Track, accessed via the Cleland Wildlife Park car park.

Getting there

The easy way: Click this link for google maps directions.

Mandatory gear

  • Bring your own bottle belt or hydration pack – there are no cups of water at the drink stations.
  • Mobile phone. We recommend programming the first aid number 0491 017 636 and backup first aid number 0412 466 972 in. These numbers are also written on the back of your bib.

At the race

Bag drop

There will be a bag drop tent. It will be unsecured and not supervised – bags are left at own risk. Don’t leave valuables at the bag drop tent.

Bib pickup procedure

Electronic timing bibs will not be mailed out and will be available for pickup at the event. Please allow sufficient time to pick up your bib with chip attached. You don’t need to lookup your bib number before the event, but if you want to, see here. We recommend arriving 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to the event start time in order to allow plenty of time to pick up your bib. You may need to park a few minutes walk from the start so please allow sufficient time to walk there.

After you have entered online and checked that all information provided is correct, there are 3 steps that you need to follow on arrival:

  1. On event day go straight to the “ENTRY DETAILS” display boards. All entrants will be listed and sorted by surname. Find your name. Check that your entry details are still correct, especially the race and category you have entered. Remember your race number and start time as you will need it for the next step.
  2. Go to the “RACE NUMBER BIBS” baskets (all numbers are filed numerically). Find your race number and take it out.
  3. If any of your entry details are wrong e.g. your name, category or gender, or you are changing races, proceed to the “REGISTRATION MANAGER” area.

Chip timing procedure

Entrants must make sure the data that timers have is correct, so must follow these basic procedures:

  • A timing tag linked to you and your race number will be stuck to the back of your race number bib.
  • Attach the bib at waist height to the outside front of whatever top you will be wearing at all timing points. Do not bend or fold the tag or tamper with it.
  • Your time and number are recorded when you pass through a timing point provided your race number bib is visible. Covering it with clothing or your hands as you operate a watch will prevent it recording.
  • If there are several starts for different races, make sure you start at the correct time.
  • Run or walk over the start/finish timing mat at your start time. This lets officials know you are on the course.
  • When you cross the finish timing point, walk & stay in order in the finish chute until you are past the backup cameras.
  • Race number bibs are disposable & do not need to be returned.
  • If you cut the course short (for example by skipping a lap, or taking a shortcut), do not cross over the mat as we may inadvertently think you have won the race. If you do not complete your course you must return your bib to the timing van near the end of the finish chute.
  • If you lose your race number bib during the race you must go to the timing van near the end of the finish chute as soon as you cross the finish timing mat.
  • Officials will phone and search for anyone who has a start time but no finish time, so it is vital you do not use someone else’s number and you go over the timing mat so your start and finish are recorded.

Be careful

Beware of slippery patches on the tracks. Bare, packed, earth covered by green moss may be very slippery. Carry your phone on you when running as it could be critical if you get lost or injured.

Course Marking

The signs to look out for:

  • Red arrows at turnoffs. All turnoffs will be marked with arrows, and ribbons are never used for this purpose.
  • Red-and-white ribbons to confirm that you’re on the right track.
  • Wrong way signs where needed.
  • Course divergence signs where needed.

The red-and-white striped ribbons will be placed at frequent intervals (200-400m) to confirm that you are on the right track. Wherever you need to turn off, there will be an arrow sign. If you stop seeing any signs, turn back. Do not carry on and get yourself even more lost. All runners are expected to carry a mobile phone.

Drink station and refreshments

Bring your own bottle belts or hydration packs because there will be no cups of water at the drink stations or at the finish line. There will be aid stations on course, which will have water and lollies and in keeping with TRSA’s COVID-safe plan, volunteers will re-fill all water bottles and hand out lollies using tongs. The same applies at the finish line with fruit and brownies also on offer. Please use the hand sanitizer provided and wait for volunteers to hand you what you’re after.

John from The Coffee Run will be there to with his usual coffee van, offering a 50c discount if you bring your own cup.

TRSA Vert Challenge

TRSA Vert Challenge

Date: Fri, 31 July 2020

Social

view-event-on-facebook

Following on from the TRSA V4 Series, TRSA brings you the July Vert Challenge.  Challenge yourself or challenge others and make friends with your favourite hill!

The aim of the TRSA July Vert Challenge is to clock as many vertical meters as possible during July.  As an additional challenge, make your way through all of your favourite races in Australia (virtually) as an additional challenge.

State Race Race Vert (m) Cumulative Vert (m)
QLD Guzzler Glass Half Full                   740                 740
ACT Stromlo 50                   960                 1,700
VIC Wonderland 35                 1,310                 3,010
WA Margaret River Ultra                 1,730                 4,740
SA Five Peaks Ultra                 2,060                 6,800
TAS Cradle Mountain Trail Run                 2,118                 8,918
NSW UTA100                 4,400               13,318

Although this is a virtual individual challenge, people are welcome to run/walk with others (social distance style) to get that vert up.  We are hoping that you’ll get a new appreciation of vert and find new hills to conquer!  We encourage you to share your hill experiences and photos in the Facebook group.

This series will run from Wednesday 1 July through to the Friday 31 July. We have set up a Strava Club called TRSA Vert Challenge to allow a bit of friendly competition (and motivation) via the club leader board as well as allowing members a forum to actively encourage others.

Entries

To be part of the challenge simply fill out this form and request to join the TRSA Vert Challenge Strava Club
The sooner you do this, the easier life is for the wonderful volunteers pulling this together.

Series Rules

All runs logged through Strava count towards your vertical metres.  You can walk, however you’ll need to set these as a run in Strava.  All runs must be logged as public in order for these to be viewed.

We have a Strava query set up to track elevation, however if for some reason your vert isn’t getting counted (and your run is set to public) you’ll need to complete the attached form to log your vertical meters.  Random audits will be conducted by the TRSA Committee to verify vertical meters claimed.

Results

Progressive results will be published online. Results as at Saturday 4 July midnight can be found here.

Cost and Prizes

  • The July Virtual Challenge is completely free of charge.
  • Several prizes (currently being finalised) are up for grabs for the following:
    • Most vert gained over a month.
    • Fastest time to complete all of the virtual Australian races (i.e. all 13,318m).
    • Most vert gained in a day
    • Random prizes for participation.
  • Prizes are limited to 1 per person and allocated based on the order above.  The 2nd or 3rd place person will be allocated the next prize if the winner of the category has already received a prize.

Strava Process

  • You must join the TRSA Vert Challenge Strava Club
  • The run must be public

Sturt Gorge Social Run

Date: Sun, 08 March 2020

March 2020 features Sturt Gorge Recreation as National Parks and Wildlife’s Park of the Month.  To celebrate Sturt Gorge, come along and run your choice of 3 of the best courses from our previous Sturt Gorge events. The courses won’t be marked for this social run so you’ll need to download the Guru (ex Galileo) app and the gpx files so you can navigate your way around the courses – 6km/14km/20km.

Meet at  Blackwood Football Club on Trevor Tce at 6:45am for an 7am start. Please DO NOT park in the St Peters Lutheran School/church car park.

For those of you sticking around for coffee and/or breakfast, we’ll head to Sheaok Cafe on Sheoak Road Belair afterwards.
